Gernika, 80 years after the bombing
On 26 April 1937, German and Italian warplanes of the Condor Legion threw bombs over the town of Gernika-Lumo in Bizkaia, destroying 90% of its buildings. During the reconstruction, the layout of the streets was considerably altered. In the city centre, hardly any building from the period have been preserved as a reference for photographing the places of the bombing. The development of this photographic itinerary has been advised by Vicente del Palacio, from the local history studies group Gernikazarra and the collaboration of Jesús Díez.
